Participants will examine the Education Act (Skollagen 2010:800), with particular attention to Chapter 5 disciplinary measures, including classroom removals, detentions, confiscations, and suspensions, and the procedural safeguards that must accompany their use. The course also covers the Law on Schools Against Crime (Lag om skolor mot brott), which requires systematic crime risk assessments and structured collaboration with police authorities and social services to prevent and respond to criminal activity in school settings.

Beyond disciplinary and crime-prevention statutes, this course explores the Work Environment Act, which classifies students as protected employees from grade 1 onward and imposes hazard-identification and mitigation obligations on school staff. It further examines the Discrimination Act, detailing requirements for proactive anti-discrimination planning and the proper conduct of harassment investigations, as well as the enhanced protections afforded to educational staff under the Swedish Penal Code in cases of threats or assault. Finally, participants will review mandatory criminal background check requirements for school employment applicants to ensure compliance with statutory hiring obligations.
